V Video Blackout

CCTV redaction tool

A CCTV redaction tool is what schools, shopping centres, and campus facilities need when a clip must leave the control room: a parent request, an insurer, a local authority, or a press enquiry. You are not shopping for cameras on this page. You already have analogue or IP coverage. You need CCTV redaction software that does not upload the corridor outside Year 3 to a SaaS bucket.

Typical facility export

  • Pull a time range from the NVR or VMS — do not redact “live.”
  • Mask students, customers, and staff who are not the subject of the request with face redaction.
  • Blur car parks with license plate blur.
  • Hand over only the burned-in MP4. Keep the original in the recorder’s retention window.

Education and retail policy, not hardware advice

We will not tell you which dome to buy. The compliance problem is downstream of recording: once you duplicate a file, every identity in frame is in your custody. Offline processing is documented on offline video redaction. European access requests belong on GDPR video compliance.

FAQ

Is a CCTV redaction tool the same as CCTV redaction software?
Same job. “Tool” is how facilities and school IT often search; “software” is the RFP noun. Video Blackout is the Windows application either audience is naming.
Do we redact on the NVR?
No. Export a clip from the recorder, redact on a PC, keep the NVR original as the system of record.
